Ronald P. McCluskey Veterans Scholarship

This is a Department of Texas scholarship for Texas American Legion members who are pursuing education or training.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be a member of The American Legion Department of Texas.

• Membership must be paid for the year in which the application is submitted.

• The applicant must provide a DD-214 or other discharge documentation showing service dates and character of discharge.

Required packet

The application requires:

• Current transcript, when applicable;

• evidence of acceptance or enrollment in the selected school;

• typed statement explaining why the applicant should receive assistance;

• information about school, community, church, and leadership activities;

• recent photograph;

• DD-214 or discharge documentation; and

• completed application form.

Deadline and award

• Application must be received by Department of Texas Headquarters by September 1 of the application year.

• The official form currently states a maximum benefit of $500 for one semester, one time only.

• Recipient must maintain at least a 2.5 grade-point average while completing a minimum of nine semester hours.

• Previous recipients may not apply again.

This application is submitted directly to the Department of Texas. A local Post can assist the veteran with membership verification, packet review, supporting documentation, and a recommendation when appropriate.
