Junior Shooting Sports Official Match Program Scholarship

This scholarship is earned through The American Legion’s annual 3-Position Junior Air Rifle Championship, not through a conventional essay-only scholarship application.

Program eligibility

• Open to male and female junior shooters.

• Participants generally must be under age 18, although high school seniors may participate through age 20.

• Shooters use a .177-caliber air rifle.

• Participants compete in either the Precision or Sporter category.

• Individuals or clubs participate through American Legion, Sons of The American Legion, or American Legion Auxiliary affiliation or sponsorship.

Competition route

1. Register or affiliate the club or individual shooter.

2. Order and complete the preliminary postal-match target set.

3. Advance through state or regional competition.

4. Compete in the qualification postal round.

5. Top competitors advance to the national shoulder-to-shoulder championship.

For the 2026–2027 Texas schedule, target sets must be ordered by January 31, 2027, and preliminary-round targets must reach National Headquarters by February 28, 2027.

Scholarship awards

• Precision national champion: $5,000

• Sporter national champion: $5,000

• Second place in Precision: $1,000

• Second place in Sporter: $1,000
